Beautiful weather and the efforts of many volunteers and supporters made Sunday, April 28, a great day for the Westport Young Woman's League Minute Man 5K & 10K races at Compo Beach. This wonderful community event would not have been possible without the support of our many local sponsors and our members.

We would like to thank our super sponsors Major League Baseball/MLB.com and New Country Lexus of Westport, as well as our registration sponsor, Performance Physical Therapy, and the Westport Young Women's League membership for making our 35th annual Minute Man Race possible.

We also deeply appreciate the time and efforts of Mark Carmody, president of Peak Performance Sports Camps, and his staff who have coordinated the Kids' Fun Run races for us for three years in a row.

We are very grateful to the following organizations and individuals for their generous support: the Saugatuck Rowing Club, European Wax Center, Gault, Koko Fit Club, Westport Volunteer EMS, Art for the Ages, Boots, Kilometers, Connecticut Family Physical Therapy, Miggs Burroughs, 95.9 The Fox, Westport Magazine (Moffly Media), Suzysaid.com and Westport Invitations.

Thank you to the following local businesses for providing refreshments to the runners and fans: Garelick and Herbs, Great Cakes, Bagel Maven, Gold's Deli, Compo Beach Concession, Village Bagels of Norwalk, The Food Pantry, The Immaculate Baking Co., Stew Leonard's, Fairway Market, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, Costco, Dunkin Donuts, Trader Joe's and Stiles Market. We also thank Poland Springs for supplying all the water for our runners.

For the past 35 years, the race has been one of the Westport Young Women's League major fundraisers. All net proceeds gained from registration fees and sponsorship are donated to more than 30 nonprofit organizations in Westport and in our neighboring communities. Your support helps many agencies in our local area improve the lives of those they serve, and for this, we are very grateful.

The Westport Young Women's League is a non-profit philanthropic organization of women committed to promoting a sense of community through volunteerism, social activities and fundraising for local charities. We welcome new members throughout the year.

Our next membership open house takes place on Tuesday, June 4, at 10:30 am. If interested, please email our vice president of membership, Nathalie Fonteyne, at nathaliefonteyne@hotmail.com for details on this event.
