On May 22, the Westport Library held its 15th annual gala, "Booked for the Evening," where the Westport Library Award was presented to Jon Meacham, award-winning author, historian, and journalist. He is the author most recently of "Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power," a No. 1 New York Times bestseller. A former editor of Newsweek, Meacham was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for American Lion, his bestselling 2008 biography of Andrew Jackson.
The Westport Library Award, generously donated by Lux Bond & Green, was established to honor those whose work reflects the purpose of the Library -- to nurture the love of learning and enhance our understanding of the world. Proceeds from this event enable the Library to continue to provide outstanding programs and resources for the entire community to experience and learn extraordinary things.
The event was an overwhelming success, and we thank our generous sponsors for supporting the Library's signature fundraiser. A complete list of sponsor names can be found at www.westportlibrary.org -- the Library's website. We are very grateful to our Benefit Committee for their outreach and participation.
We also thank the dedicated and determined committee, which includes Martha Aasen, Stacy Bass, Jessica Cohen, Cindy Clark, Theanne Feldman, Lucy Johnson, Julia Genser, Melissa Kane, Marianna McCall, Maggie Mudd, Tracey Narang, David Rubinstein, Nina Sankovitch, Tricia Schwartz, and Allison ZieringWalmark; Library Director Maxine Bleiweis and the whole library staff; and the 400 attendees this year for making the 15th annual event an overwhelming success.
We'd also like to express our deep appreciation to the incredible support and enthusiasm of this community. We should all feel proud to live in a town that supports the library and the intellectual curiosity it inspires.
We look forward to seeing you at Booked for the Evening next year.
