Westport Sunrise Rotary thanks one and all for joining us for the sixth annual Great Duck Race, for making the first day of summer a great day for all, and for helping us support the many local nonprofit groups that make the difference in so many lives.

This was our most successful Great Duck Race. Everything was bigger and better. We had the mega-bouncy obstacle course and the rock climbing wall for kids, and for everyone we offered more food choices and two live bands.

We showed off ducks decorated by sponsors and friends. The 10 best will be on display at the Westport Library through July. There was cool stuff, from the Westport Electric Car Club and the Westport Mini-Maker Faire. And chances to dunk our town officials -- Jim Marpe, Avi Kaner, Helen Garten, Eileen Flug and Dewey Loselle -- all of whom contributed time and a bit of waterlogged dignity showing us why Westport is a special, giving community.

We thank all of you who bought the raffle tickets that provide the club money to support a variety of local charities. And thank you sponsors -- Castlekeep Investment Advisors, Fairfield County Bank, Landmark Preschool, UBS, A.J. Penna & Son, Berchem, Moses & Devlin Inc., Gault Energy, Green Village Initiative, Honda of Westport, The Russell Agency, School of Rock, Westport Library, WholeFoods, Amelie Barkie, Our Town Crier, 95.9 FOX and Star 99.9.

And thank you, weather gods, though the wind god might have been confused as we used a new race course this year. The poor ducks couldn't get any momentum and made the main event last far longer than usual. Even the winner may well have set a record for the most leisurely 100 yard splash. Yet, alas, we did get our 10 winners.

Each and every Westport Sunrise Rotary member, 80 of them, offers our thanks as we serve those in need in different ways, everyday, everywhere. All are invited to learn more about Rotary by visiting our web site www.westportsunriserotary.com and by joining us any Friday morning at 7:30 at Bobby Q's on Main Street.

There will be a seventh annual Great Duck Race next June. See you all there.
