Letter: Steinberg a proven leader with local roots

Westport is fortunate that Jonathan Steinberg is running for a third term as our State Representative in the 136th District.
Jonathan is an independent thinker who is dedicated to doing what is best for Westport ... for our current needs and for the long term. He is effective in Hartford because he asks tough questions, ensures he deeply understands the issues, and collaborates across the political aisle to solve problems and get things done for the benefit of our town and our state.
Jonathan has been selected by his peers to serve on a number of impactful committees, including Transportation and Finance. He has also effectively demonstrated his commitment to education, and he is a leader of the Moderates Caucus.
Jonathan is a 33-year resident of Westport and a graduate of Staples High School. His children have also benefited from our schools, and he understands their value. He advocates for the need for state government to support education while allowing flexibility for districts such as our own, which have demonstrated that they are serving their students well. Jonathan's deep roots in Westport include seven years of service on the RTM, including election by his peers to serve as deputy moderator.
In short, Jonathan has consistently demonstrated leadership, integrity, hard work, and collegiality, and he has the results to show for it.
Please join me on Nov. 4 in voting for Jonathan Steinberg to continue his service as Westport's State Representative.
The writer is the chairman of the Westport Board of Education.
