Westport's Board of Education deserves proven dedicated and committed leaders. With almost five years of service of the Westport Board of Education, and countless years of active Westport community service, Elaine Whitney has proven to be a dedicated public servant and a highly effective leader.
As a persistent problem solver and consensus builder, Elaine is effective in representing the Board of Education before the Board of Finance, the RTM, and other town bodies. For example, the board's proposed budget in her first year as chairman was passed near-unanimously and without any cuts.
Elaine's years of management consulting, combined with her MBA, and her health-benefits expertise make her a unique asset to the board. This past year, Elaine led the negotiating team for the new teachers' contract, which resulted in structural changes of the board's health-benefit plan and in increased savings. These health-benefits changes laid the groundwork for similar savings across many other town and Board contracts. It is changes like these that create substantial savings to the town while maintaining our ability to attract and maintain a strong workforce.
Elaine Whitney is a strong and effective leader, a responsible steward of our taxpayers' resources, and passionate about preparing each of our students to reach his or her full potential. Please join me in voting for her continued service on the Westport Board of Education
