The Westport Woman's Club would like to thank the Westport postal carriers for their time and effort spent in sponsoring their annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive on Saturday, May 10. In addition, we wish to thank the residents of our community for their generosity in donating the food for our food closet.

This year, in cooperation with Homes With Hope, under the direction of Jeff Weiser, we decided to attach donation-reminder cards to small brown bags, with stickers attached stating the agencies that would receive the food.

We thought this would be a more visible reminder.

We were abundantly blessed with more food than we have ever received before.

Mail truck after mail truck filled with donations arrived and were unloaded. It was most pleasing to the women of the club to witness the enthusiasm of the postal workers to be, specifically, helping us fill our food closet. The people of Westport proved the adage "sharing is caring."

The Westport Woman's Club, which has operated our its food closet since 1975, works with the town Department of Human Services to meet emergency food needs for Westport families.

Donations of non-perishable foods are accepted throughout the year, Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., at our clubhouse, 44 Imperial Avenue.

We thank all those who gave generously, all those dedicated WWC members and other volunteers who spent long hours sticking on stickers, stapling cards to bags and sorting the food. Our sincere thanks to those letter carriers who diligently delivered the donations at the end of their long workday.

We look forward to coordinating this event with the postal carriers again next year.
