Letter: Good-neighbor program

In these tough times when many in our community are struggling, it is up to everyone to pitch in and lend a hand to their neighbor. I propose this be done by establishing a neighbor-to-neighbor program.
Under this program, Westport would designate one day each month when residents could donate items, for example, used appliances, sporting gear, children's clothes, tools and hardware, etc.
The goods could be delivered to a public location, such as a parking lot at one of the schools, where any Westport resident in need of donated items could obtain them for free. Arrangements could be made with Goodwill or another charitable organization to pick up any items remaining at the end of the day.
