Letter: A salute to teachers everywhere

Teachers are heros. Teachers care for and protect our children. They spend more time with our children than most relatives. They mold our children, teach them and prepare them for the world.
They are underpaid, overworked and many, many times spend their own money and time to further your child's education and well being.
This has all been said before, but in the wake of Sandy Hook, I thought it should be repeated. My grandmother was a teacher, my aunts were teachers and some of my dear friends are teachers. Teachers helped raise my children. They taught them to read and write, right and wrong and everything in between.
I want to thank the teachers of Westport and Sandy Hook and all the world. My kids wouldn't be who they are without your involvement in their lives. I honor you and appreciate you. Thank you and be safe. You are heroes.
