Let the revels begin: Full slate of fun at First Night Westport

Downtown Westport comes alive this afternoon as First Night Westport, with a full slate of revels for New Year's Eve -- ranging from family fare to acts geared to adult tastes -- continues until nearly midnight.
One First Night button will admit an attendee to all events. They are $15, and will be available at all venues at 4 p.m. Monday.

ANTIQUE CAR PARADE
An antique car parade on Main Street kicks off First Night festivities. 5 p.m. Main Street, with the vehicle entourage preceded by New York Express Roller Dance Company, a roller-skating dance troupe.
KIDS & FAMILIES
Puppet Show: The Ultra Violet Puppets perform under a black light that makes them glow. Kids who wear white will glow, too. Suitable for ages 3 to 10 and families. 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Family Y boardroom.
Singer Bari Koral: Dubbed the "Sheryl Crow for kids" by the New York Post, Koral's latest album won a Parents Choice Award was a top-10 kids' album pick by Time Out Kids. 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. TD Bank main lobby.
Face Painting: Amazing Face Art will paints kids and adults. Face paints are hypoallergenic and FDA approved, First Night says, and wash off with soap and water. $3. 4:30 to 7 p.m. in TD Bank main lobby; 5 to 10 p.m. in Family Y upper gym
Animal characatures: Artist Pat Mason will draw characatures of various animals. 4 to 7 p.m. in TD Bank main lobby.
Hands-On Drum Show: Percussionist Bob Bloom is trucking a cargo of colorful drums and other percussion instruments for a participatory musical show. 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall auditorium.
Model Trains: Dennis the Train Man will have a collection of model trains and and tales to tell about them. Trains include Thomas the Tank Train, the New York City Subway and the Harry Potter Hogwarth's Express. 5 to 7 p.m. in the Famiuly Y upper gym.
Square Dance: Veteran square-dance caller Al Brozek will tell kids and adults when to promenade, spin their partners and docey-doe. 7 to 9 p.m. in TD Bank main lobby.
Ballroom Dancing: Instructors will offer lessons and perform during an evening of Salsa, Cha Cha, Argentine Tango, Waltz and West Coast Swing. 8 to 10 p.m. Christ and Holy Trinity Church, Branson Hall.
Roller Dance: The New York Express Roller Dance Company presents Love on Wheels, combining dance, acrobatics, juggling, mime and figure skating set to a soundtrack. Town Hall auditorium. 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.
Jug Band Sounds: Primarily a jug band, Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights play a mix of original songs, early jazz, blues, swing, standards, gospel, pop and rock. 6:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. in the Family Y Bedford Room.
Family Tunes: For The Heart, an ensemble of high school students from Westport and Fairfield, will perfomr Broadway, pop, holiday and Disney music. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Toquet Hall.
Cabaret: Westport singer-actress Leslie Orofino performs her new cabaret show "Champagne Kisses," accompanied by pianist Christine Talbot Sutin. The show features songs of Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter and others. 8 p.m. Westport Public Library McManus Room.
Cool Jazz: Local jazz musician Chris Coogan and bandmates play standards and requests. 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. in Christ and Trinity Church's Seabury Center.
Giorgio Fareira: A viral video of the Fairfield singer-songwriter singing his order at a fastfood drive-thru earned him a gig on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and made him an overnight sensation. 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in the Family Y Bedford Room.
Teen Bands: Teen-age and middle-school students perform in a variety of bands. 7:45 to 10:15 p.m. Toquet Hall.
Ice Sculptor: Bill Covitz, former national grand champion ice sculptor, will chisel frozen figures during a continuous demonstration. 5 to 9 p.m. at Moja Cafe, 12 Wilton Road.
Fortune Tellers: Bigelow Tea's House of the New Year Moon will feature fortune tellers, palm readers, psychics and tarot-card readers. $10 for 10 minutes, $1 each additional minute. 5 to 10 p.m., Tiwn Hall Rooms 201-201A.
Stage Comedy: Westport Community presents a pair of 10-minute comedic plays, "Can't Think of it Right Now," and "Smoke Scenes." 5:30 p.m., 7:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. Town Hall lower auditorium.
Charicature Artist: Caricaturist Mike Valentine does funny but flattering drawings, First Night said. He'll do one characature per family. 6 to 10 p.m. Family Y upper gym.
Magic Act: The Magic Genie has performed around the world, First Night said, and audiences can see whether the hand is quicker than the eye. 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Family Y boardroom.
Replacing fireworks this year, Laser Show Party will light up the night sky with colorful images, accompanied by a soundtrack. 10:30 p.m., overlooking the Saugatuck River at the downtown Post Road bridge.
