Every meet this year, the Weston gymnastics team increased its scoring output. Although Weston finished ninth at the Pomperaug Invitational on Saturday with 90.5 points, it improved from its 88 on Jan. 5 and 71.79 in its season-opener on Dec. 22.
"It keeps getting better," said Lady Trojans coach Salina Tavella. "We're improving every meet and I'm very happy. We owe the increased score to [sophomore] Maddie Ratte. She had her highest score of the season."
Ratte competed in only three events and had an all-around score of 17.75, including a personal best 7.3 on vault and a 6.55 on floor exercise. She continued to improve on the balance beam (3.9).
Also showing improvement for Weston was freshman Meredith Marcus, who had an all-around score of 14.6. Marcus had a 7.1 vault, a 4.4 on floor and a 3.1 on the uneven bars.
Freshman Andrea Janis (25.55) was the Lady Trojans' top gymnast in the previous meets and Saturday was no exception. Floor (7.6) and vault (7.45) were her best events and Janis was steady on bars (5.7) and beam (4.8).
Sophomore Alexis Gandal (24.5) was second for Weston and vault (7.5) was her top score. Gandal did well on floor (7.3) and beam (6.0) and continued to improve on bars (3.7).
Senior captain Kailie Mann (19.6) did well on vault (7.3) ad floor (5.4). Mann hung tough on bars (3.5) and beam (3.4). Sophomore Lena Romaldini (13.1) competed on three events and vault (6.6) was her best. Romaldini also competed on floor (3.7) and bars (2.8).
