Simply Smiles, a Westport-based charity focused on helping impoverished children worldwide, will hold its annual "Keep Hope Alive" fundraiser and gala celebration 7 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Southport.

WFSB-TV personality and Better Connecticut host Scot Haney will host the event, which will include a cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres and a photo presentation, followed by a "Presentation of Needs" during which guests can contribute to various projects. Other activities will include a "Food Carry," in which guests will have a chance to carry a sack full of food staples to empathize with those receiving help from Simply Smiles in Mexico. In addition, singer Kristen Graves will provide entertainment.

The charity, in its 10th year, builds schools and feeds malnourished children and families in a coffee-farming region of southern Oaxaca, Mexico. It also hosts a summer camp and builds and renovates homes among the Lakota people on South Dakota's Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, according to a charity news release.

The public is welcome to attend and participate in the event for free.
