WESTPORT — A Milford man was arrested on drug charges after a car accident in town on Monday afternoon.

Police were at the scene of a car accident on Bridge Street near Imperial Avenue when a K-9 officer arrived and noticed the smell of marijuana from inside one of the cars involved in the accident.

After the police dog, Chase, searched the car, officers found 18.2 grams of marijuana, police said. Drug paraphernalia was also found with the drugs in a compartment in the backseat of the car the 38-year-old had been driving.

Police charged Jason Bascom with possession of more than half an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $500 for the resident of Peak Avenue in Milford ahead of a Sept. 7 court date.

Police said there were no injuries in the Monday car accident.
