John Wetherall Boyd, 94, a former resident of Westport, died Aug. 15 in Amherst, Mass.

Born in 1916, he was the son of the late E.F. Boyd and Marguerite Van Voorhis. He attended Westport public schools, won a scholarship to Loomis Chaffee in Windsor and, in l939, graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. In l942, he received a juris doctorate degree from Columbia University Law School.

He taught military law during World War II and, in the 1960s, served two terms in the state legislature. He had a law practice in Westport and, at one point, served as the town attorney. He also held positions on the Beach Commission, Town Court, Republican Town Committee and Planning and Zoning Commission

He was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Jean.

Survivors include his four children, Barbara (Fred Sternau), Frances (Carlos Velazquez), Nancy (Arthur Munisteri) and Jean (John Bailey); seven grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane. A reception will follow in the church hall.
