Jane Sherman is the new president of the Westport Rotary Club for 2015-16.

Sherman took over the post from Steve Lewine at the club’s recent annual Pass-the-Gavel Clambake at the Ned Dimes Marina.

Sherman has been a member of the Westport Rotary Club since 2011. “Although I consider myself a Westport native, I have only been a part of Rotary for a few years. It has been a wonderful experience, and I am delighted to have this opportunity to take a leadership role in this important organization,” Sherman said in a statement announcing her installation as president.

Stan Glick will continue as the Westport Rotary’s treasurer and Peter Gillespie will continue as secretary.

Sherman worked 30 years for Alden O. Sherman Co., an aerospace manufacturing company that made airfoils for gas turbine aircraft engines. She held various posts in the business, including president for 12 years. She now is the president of Lois Street Corp., which owns and manages a group of commercial buildings locally.

Sherman is a member of the Unitarian Church in Westport, and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees and other church committees. She also sings in three choirs.

In 2004, Sherman wrote and published a book about her father and the company he founded, “Alden O. Sherman, An American Original.”

She attended Lawrence University in Wisconsin, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology, minoring in music. In 2011, she received a master’s degree in fine arts, creative writing, from Fairfield University.

The Westport Rotary Club meets weekly on Tuesdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Branson Hall of Christ & Holy Trinity Church. People interested in more information about the club or becoming a member, can contact Sherman at 203-226-4612.
