The free program will start at 7 p.m. in the library’s McManus Room.
Mitchell’s book, “Hug Your Customers: Still the Proven Way to Personalize Sales and Achieve Astounding Results,” has recently been revised. The updated information in the book includes methods for using new technologies to create virtual “hugs” and more efficient customer service, according to publicity for the event.
Warren Buffett praised the book as “a gem ... I wish everyone at Berkshire would follow (Jack Mitchell's) advice—we would own the world,” according to the press release.
Mitchell is chairman of the Mitchells Family of Stores — including Mitchells of Westport, Richards/Marsh and Wilkes Bashford — a three-generation family business, whose stores in Connecticut, New York and California are known for their “personal service touches and strong relationships,” the press release states.
He received the “Menswear Retailing Hall Of Fame” Award in 2009 and has been recognized as one of the top-10 retail visionaries of his time by the Daily News Record, a retail trade publication.
After completing an undergraduate degree at Wesleyan University and a master’s degree at the University of California-Berkeley, Mitchell joined the family business. In 2003, he launched a second career as a speaker and author. His first book, “Hug Your Customers: The Proven Way to Personalize Sales and Achieve Astounding Results” was a Wall Street Journal best seller. In 2008, he published his second book, “Hug Your People: The Proven Way to Hire, Inspire and Recognize Your Employees to Achieve Remarkable Results.”
Mitchell has been the keynote speaker at more than 200 events for organizations including Morgan Stanley, Conde Nast, Payless, Nike, Starbucks, Wells Fargo, Luxottica and Harvard University. He has appeared on NBC’s “Today” show and “Kudlow & Cramer,” as well as in numerous radio interviews and articles.
In April 2005, INC magazine listed him as one of the “26 Entrepreneurs We Love.”
