The town's Green Task Force plans to launch its Stay Cool Westport campaign Thursday to draw attention to upgrading energy efficiency in local homes during the summer.

The kick-off will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Compo Beach South. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the clubhouse at Ned Dimes Marina.

Joining Green Task Force members will be representatives from 20 Westport Home Energy Challenge partner organizations, and residents who have already participated in the program. There also will be a barbecue, vegetarian foods and other refreshments.

Under the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge, Westporters have completed more Home Energy Solution visits and made more energy-efficiency upgrades than the other 14 other state communities in the program, which is funded by a Department of Energy grant.

As the top finisher in the program, the town has been given an electric truck, an electric-vehicle charging station, heavy-duty recycling bins, bicycle racks and solar lights.

Those planning to attend the event should make a reservation by July 6 by calling 203-293-6320 or visit www.bit.ly/StayCoolWspt.
