WESTPORT — Westporters took a dip in the frigid Long Island Sound on New Year’s Day for the 11th annual Temple Israel Polar Bear Plunge at Compo Beach.

This year’s event was in honor of Scott Rutsky, who passed away last year and was a major contributor to various charities.

The event helped to to raise money for many different charities. Some of the charities that benefit are Interfaith Housing, Marfan Foundation, Autism Speaks, PanCan, Hole in the Wall Gang, Make a Wish, United Cerebral Palsy, Child Guidance Center, MS, Temple Israel social actions fund and Homes with Hope. A new addition this year is The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
