WESTPORT — Holiday spirit officially came to town Thursday evening when the annual tree lighting ceremony took place at Westport Town Hall.

The Staples High School Orphenians sung carols while the Westport Historical Society served hot cocoa to visitors.

First Selectman Jim Marpe shared his thoughts before lighting the big evergreen with the help of many kid volunteers.

“Traditions like this Christmas tree lighting are what help maintain and enhance the heritage and character that makes Westport so special,” he said.
