A group of Westport women is conducting a drive to collect holiday gifts for Staten Island teenagers whose homes were devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

The group, headed by Lisa Fierro, will be accepting new, unwrapped gifts until Saturday, Dec. 15, at Fierro's home, 8 Brookside Drive in Westport.

Gifts in the $20-to-$25 price range are needed for boys and girls ages 12 to 17, Fierro said.

Among gift items the group recommends are footballs, soccer balls, makeup and nail-polish sets, pillow pets (animals not characters), fragrances, pampering and body-care items, games appropriate for teens and families, puzzles and current books on topics of interest to teens.

The group expressly asked that gift cards not be donated.

The group said the National Basketball Association had pledged to donate a quantity of basketballs, fulfilling what late last week had been an urgent request.

In addition to individuals, local civic and school groups are assisting with the drive, Fierro said.

Gifts for the drive may be purchased online and shipped to Fierro at her home address, but they must be delivered no later than Friday, Dec. 14.
