A three-session bereavement support group for members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community who are trying to cope with the death of a life partner is planned this month by Westport's Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County.

The group will meet Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 16, 23 and 30. They are planned at Visiting Nurse's Norwalk offices in Suite 114 at the Health & Wellness Center of Norwalk Hospital at I-Park, 761 Main Ave., on the Norwalk/Wilton town line.

"Given the non-traditional nature of a same-sex relationship, the bereavement needs of the LGBT community are unique when it comes to the experience of losing a loved one," said Kristin Carpenter, a grief and bereavement counselor with Visiting Nurse. The sessions will cover incidents such as being kept from seeing a loved ones near death and being banned from funerals.

There group is free, but registration is required by calling Visiting Nurse at 203-834-6341, Ext. 255.
