Great Duck Race hits the Saugatuck River on June 13

A fleet flotilla of yellow rubber duckies will make a splash in the Saugatuck River for charity — and fun — in the seventh annual Great Duck Race sponsored June 13 by the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jesup Green.
The race raises money for Sunrise Rotary charities through the sales of $20 tickets matching the numbers assigned to ducks, with the person who holds the ticket number of the duck that crosses the finish line first winning $5,000; second-place finisher wins $1,000 and the next eight places claim $500 each — for a jackpot total of $10,000.
Ticket holders do not have to be present at the event to win.
Two dozen nonprofits benefit from the race proceeds, according to organizers, including Andrew’s Army, CLASP Homes, ElderHouse, Mercy Learning Center, Project Morry, Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, the Susan Fund and Westport Warm-Up Fund.
In addition to the duck race, the activities will include children’s arts and crafts, games, face painting, a magician, a bouncy castle, food trucks and prominent Westporters taking a plunge for the cause in the dunk tank.
In addition, the Staples Interact Club will sponsor the Great Duck Race 5K Fun Run. The race, open to anyone, starts at 9 a.m. in the Imperial Avenue parking lot and finishes at Jesup Green. Entry fee is $25, with proceeds donated to Homes with Hope. Register for the race at http://bit.ly/1AlvFS9.
