Gatorade, ESPN honor New Fairfield cross country star

is the first runner from New Fairfield to receive the award.
"The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the racecourse, distinguishes Raneri as Connecticut's best high school boys cross country runner," the company said in a statement.
Raneri, a junior, raced in the Class M State Championship last season, leading the Rebels to second place as a team. He took second at the Connecticut Open Championships, earned ninth place at the New England Cross Country Championships and finished 18th at the Nike Cross Nationals Northeast Regional.
He maintains a 3.46 grade point average.
The selection process for the award was administered by ESPN Rise magazine.
