The GFA girls basketball team went 1-1 last week, beating NEPSAC opponent Christian Heritage 57-20 and then losing to FAA rival Holy Child, 53-58.

Against Christian Heritage, the Dragons came out aggressive in their defense by notching 17 first half steals with many of those coming off the press. Lexi Kimball finished with 19 points, 12 steals, four rebounds and three blocks. Eighth grader Ashley Humphrey had 13 points and four steals.

In the second game on the week, there were 46 foul calls between both teams and 28 free throws shot by Holy Child. Kimball finished with a game-high of 36 points.

Boys squash

Last Monday the Dragons took on Brunswick and pulled out a 4-3 victory. No. 1 player, senior captain Jack Mackle, won in five sets (5-11, 11-4, 11-8, 6-11, 12-10). John Selkowitz and Duda Voldman won their matches in three sets. Freshman Andy McIlvaine broke the tie to secure the win for the Dragons (6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-9).

Last Thursday GFA took on Rye High School and lost 5-2. Voldman earned a win in straight sets (11-5, 11-3, 11-8). Playing in the third spot, Selkowitz also won his match (11-9, 7-11, 11-8, and 11-7).

Girls squash

Last Monday GFA was swept 7-0 by Sacred Heart and also lost 7-0 to Rye Country Day on Wednesday.

Wrestling

Last Wednesday the Dragons wrestled their final dual meet of the season against the Canterbury School. Wrestling at 113 pounds, Sam Stuart earned a major decision, and at 182 pounds, senior Simon Stone won by pin, as did junior Hans Forland at 120 pounds.

Boys basketball

Last Thursday the Dragons faced Spire Institute of Cleveland, Ohio and won 88-55. Dom Cristiano had 25 points while Sunday Okeke had 15 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Isaac Manton scored 16 points.

Last Saturday GFA pulled out a 67-63 win over Hyde. Pat Seegers came in off the bench to contribute 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cristiano (24 points) and Okeke (15 points) supplied the offense. GFA finally took the lead at the two minutes remaining mark, and made late free throws as needed to secure the win. Manton put up his second triple-double in the past two weeks with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Okeke (12 rebounds) and Cristiano (13 rebounds) joined Seegers in the double-double count.

Fencing

GFA topped Brunswick 15-12 in a tight matchup last Tuesday.

Epee won 7-2 as Ryan Petschek went 2-1, Alex McKenna went 2-1 and Phil Nicopoulos finished undefeated with a 3-0 score.

Foil lost 6-3. Teddy Gartland went 2-1 while Chili Hopkins went 1-2.

Saber won 5-4; Matthew Lichtenberg went 2-1, Will Whitman finished 2-1 and Alex Galik went 1-2.

GFA girls fencing lost 17-10 to Greenwich Academy last Thuesday.

Foil lost 5-4; Kate Koster (Westport) lost 2-0 but won one bout be default. Senior Kate Allan tied her bouts 1-1 and won one match by default. Freshman Alida Deutsch (Westport) lost 0-3.

Epee lost 6-3 against Greenwich’s team. Amy Petschek lost 1-2. Caroline Booth (Westport) won her matches 2-1.

Saber fell 6-3.
