The Greens Farms Academy volleyball team won two games without losing a set while the boys and girls soccer squads split a pair of games last week, highlighting the Dragons efforts.
The Dragons snapped a two-game losing streak last week by winning a pair of games and not dropping a set.
GFA defeated Wooster School 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-11) on Wednesday afternoon in a road game.
Kirwin Carey (Westport) led GFA with 12 kills and five blocks while Alex Nason (Darien) had 10 digs. Meg Nesi (Fairfield) set up 20 points with assists.
On Friday, the Dragons returned home and rolled to a straight-set 25-11, 25-9, 25-3 win over Chase Collegiate.
The Dragons strong serving was led by Jessica Boolbol (Greenwich) and dominated much of the play which started in the first set.
GFA was also very strong at the net both offensively and defensively with Carey leading the charge with (10 kills, 4 blocks) and Nesi dishing out 15 assists.
The Dragons are now 4-3 overall.
The Dragons played on back-to-back days during the early fall heat to vastly different outcomes.
On Tuesday, the Dragons defeated EF Academy 6-0 for their fourth win of the season.
Senior captain and goaltender Henry Holzinger (Westport) earned his third shutout of the year behind a defense comprised of seniors -- captain James Velgot (Weston), Steffen Refvik (Westport), Ian Lee (Greenwich), Henry Corroon (Westport), Brian Schnabel (Greenwich), Jackson Boolbol (Greenwich), and Henry Brennan (Darien), all of whom saw playing time in the win.
GFA's goalscorers were Zach Liston (Wilton), Kyle Merzon (Greenwich), Jack Soper (Southport), Jake Sinnott (Fairfield), Miles Mcdonald (Westport), and Corroon. Assists came from Sinnot, Holzinger, Lee, and Merzon.
Twenty-four hours later, the Dragons were noticeably dragging and fell to Kingswood Oxford by a 1-0 score. Holzinger had seven saves on the day.
Now 4-3-1 overall on the season, GFA will travel to Harvey on Monday.
As did the boys, so too did the girls earn a split of games last week.
The Dragons raced out to a 5-0 halftime lead and never looked back in posting the win over Harvey.
Goals were scored by Kelly van Hoesen (Greenwich), Elyse Kimball (Easton), Sarah Logan (Darien), Annika White (Southport), Ella Murphy (Darien), Charlotte Cohen (Westport) and Sofia Segalla (Stamford).
Van Hoesen, Logan and Segalla all had assists, as well.
GFA's trio of goalkeepers, Sarah Peltier (Stamford), Marygrace Dellisanti (Wilton) and Kendra Offerman (Bedford, NY) -- combined to make four saves.
Two days after, the Dragons made the trip to New Haven and battled Hopkins tough before falling by a 1-0 score.
Peltier had seven saves while Offerman had four as the two split goalkeeping duties.
It was a rough week for the Dragons, who played two of the top teams in the FAA and fell twice
Sacred Heart-Greenwich outshot the Dragons 27-6 to post a 7-0 win on Tuesday.
Nikki Farber (Westport) and Rikeh Saingbe (Bridgeport) combined for 11 saves.
Two days later, the Dragons suffered a 5-1 loss to Rye Country Day.
The Dragons tied the game at 1-1 late in the first half when Laila Pina (Weston) scored on a broken corner, but Rye Country Day surged ahead with four more goals to pull out the win.
Rye only outshot GFA by an 8-6 count.
Farber had three saves for the Dragons.
