A French designer of what it calls "chic yet comfortable" women's clothing has opened a retail store on Post Road East near downtown.
Cotelac opened the boutique at 111 Post Road East, a 1,200-square-foot storefront next to Urban Outfitters, the company's U.S. marketing director said.
The store features women's ready-to-wear clothes and accessories designed by Raphaelle Cavalli, who with her husband owns Cotelac SA, the manufacturer and retailer based near Lyon, France.
Cotelac means "by the lake," U.S. marketing director Catherine Groener said, and the Westport store is the brand's seventh U.S. retail outlet. Existing stores are in New York, Boston, Chicago and California.
According to a news release, the clothing line features pieces that "are light, easy to layer, sometimes reversible and always comfortable."
Groener said the designer Cavalli "draws her artistic inspiration from musicians, painters, and personal travels; she incorporates prints and colors in unexpected ways to create her own designs."
Groener lives in Southport and oversees the six company-owned stores in the U.S. The Chicago store is independently owned.
Before closing it in 2007, Groener operated the children's clothing store Bebop in the space now occupied by Cotelac.
The Westport store plans a grand opening ceremony in April, Groener said.
Cotelac, 111 Post Road East, will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
