The Westport Weston Health District will provide free full-body skin cancer screenings from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 5, at its facility, 180 Bayberry Lane. The screenings, in celebration of National Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention month, will take place in partnership with Dr. Robin Oshman, of Westport and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Screenings are free and open to adolescents and adults of all ages who are not regularly screened by their own dermatologist or physician. No appointment is necessary, and all participants at the Health District by 11 a.m. will be screened.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, skin cancer is the most common and most preventable cancer. More than 2 million cases of skin cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year.
The Health District encourages anyone who has never been screened for skin cancer to take advantage of the screening. Individuals will be referred for further medical attention if needed.
