WESTPORT — Another independent candidate has thrown his hat into the ring for this November’s first selectman race, raising the total of contenders to four in the contest for Westport’s top leadership spot.

Timothy J. “Tj” Elgin, of Robert Lane in Westport, is running as an unaffiliated candidate. Another independent candidate, Representative Town Meeting member John Suggs, announced his candidacy last week.

State records show a Bridgeport-based business, Something Wolfy Training Academy, LLC, registered to Elgin. The registration is dated Jan. 26.

Late last month, the Republican Town Committee endorsed First Selectman Jim Marpe for re-election alongside running mate Jennifer Tooker as the Republican ticket. The Democratic Town committee endorsed its chairwoman and RTM member Melissa Kane, with running mate Rob Simmelkjaer.

Neither Elgin nor Suggs can be seated with a running mate by town charter rules.

Elgin’s candidacy paperwork was filed with the State Elections Enforcement Commission on Aug. 10.
