The Representative Town Meeting elected Eileen Lavigne Flug as moderator and Velma Heller as deputy moderator for the coming year at its Tuesday meeting.

Flug had been serving as moderator for the past six month after Hadley Rose resigned that position because he was moving out of town.

William Meyer, of District 3, in nominating Flug, said it was his pleasure to nominate the 14th RTM moderator and third woman to hold that position.

He said Flug has a proven dedication to the moderator job and is a "strong, valued leader."

She was elected unanimously.

"I like the results of the vote," Flug said.

Flug said a goal of her tenure will be to make the community better aware of what the RTM does and she encouraged fellow members of the legislative body to talk to their neighbors about what they do and about the issues they will be voting on.

Flug then called for nominations for deputy moderator and Heller, of District 9, was the only one nominated. The vote for Heller was also unanimous.

Heller had been tapped to take over the deputy post when Flug took over as moderator.
