The Fire Department has purchased a new Polaris Ranger 6-by-6 all-terrain utility vehicle. The vehicle will be used to respond to emergencies in inaccessible areas.

Deputy Chief Robert Kepchar said the six-wheel drive vehicle will be useful during weather emergencies and rescues.

The vehicle was purchased with funds from the Fire Department's budget and a matching gift from the Fairfield Half Marathon. Steve Lobdell, founder and director of the running event, contacted the department several months ago and asked if the half-marathon planners could purchase something that would be very useful for the department.
