Fire that erupted at a Colony Road home Friday night was extinguished before causing extensive damage.

The blaze was reported shortly before 9 p.m. Friday when the homeowner reported that after smelling a burning odor, he noticed flames around an exterior light above the garage.

Fire officials dispatched a total of four engine companies, a truck company and the shift commander to the scene.

The home’s residents evacuated the dwelling while firefighters doused the blaze, which was confined to its point of origin.

Fire crews from Fairfield and Norwalk provided backup coverage for other calls while Westport firefighters were fighting the Colony Road fire.

The last fire crew left the scene just before 11 p.m.

The incident is being investigated by the Fire Marhsal’s office.
