With two to four inches of rain and heavy winds forecasted over the weekend, and the tri-state area under a flood watch, the Westport Fire Department is preparing to respond to an emergency situation.

Sustained winds up to 30 miles per hour and gusts up to 50 miles per hour are expected. Should the wind come from an easterly direction it will cause higher than normal tides along the coast, potentially resulting in flood-like conditions in low-lying areas. High tide on Saturday is 9:07 a.m. and 9:29 p.m.; on Sunday it's at 9:49 a.m. and 10:09 p.m.

The department encouraged residents to prepare for the possibility of power loss, and to be aware that flooding conditions could arise. Should conditions warrant additional actions by emergency responders and residents, a message will be sent out via

the "Code Red" system and other mediums.

The fire department said that if residents are experiencing property damage due to storm conditions or other issues to call for assistance from the Town's emergency services. The fire department can be reached at (203) 341-5000.
