A new town controller has been appointed by First Selectman Jim Marpe to replace Kenneth Alexander, who died in August.

Sheila Carey, who has worked for the town’s Finance Department since October 2009, is the appointee. Most recently, Carey worked as a senior accountant in the department, and before that, as a system manager/finance analyst. Prior to 2009, when took time from her career to raise her family, Carey worked for GE Capital for 10 years as a senior treasury analyst and a senior sales tax analyst.

“We are fortunate to have personnel in our Finance Department who are accomplished in their field,” Marpe said in a statement announcing Carey’s appointment. “I am confident that Sheila’s expertise and experience will prove to be a beneficial component in maintaining the town’s financial strength.”

Carey lives in Fairfield with her husband, Michael and their four children, Conor, Brendan and twins, Kathleen and Patricia.

Alexander, who had worked in the Finance Department since December 1999, had served as controller since December 2008 until his Aug. 1 death at the age of 64.
