Filmmaker to discuss PBS series

Jonathan Diamond, a documentary filmmaker and 1971 Staples High School graduate, will discuss "The Learning Child Series" on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. in the McManus Room of Westport Public Library, 20 Jesup Road.
In his talk, Diamond, the four-program PBS series' producer and director, will give a free workshop for parents and educators on how children can become lifelong learners, according to a release from Diamond.
The programs, hosted by Joanne Woodward, James Taylor and Dawn Upshaw, were broadcast to millions of viewers on public television for More than a decade. They focus on how young children can be encouraged to engage in learning through pretend play, invention and outdoor exploration.
Diamond has specialized in programs on childhood education and health and the environment. His documentaries have been produced for public television, Discovery Health, Animal Planet and ESPN.
