Earthplace is having a special screening and discussion of the film "Trashed" on Wednesday, July 30, at 6:30 p.m. "Trashed," a film that explores the extent and effects of the global waste problem, will be followed by a panel discussion.

Serving on the panel will be Diane Duva, assistant director of waste engineering and enforcement at the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection; Dr. Barbara Reck, from Yale's Industrial Ecology Department; and Steve Edwards, director of Westport's Public Works Department.

Panelists will discuss the film, as well as state and local waste management issues focusing specifically on Westport. Discussion will cover topics such as solid waste removal, recycling and how Westport can decrease its impact on the environment.

This event, the second of the new Environmental Learning series jointly produced by Earthplace and the Westport Green Task Force, aims to help participants understand environmental concerns and local actions they can take to mitigate negative consequences.

The evening will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a reception, with the movie at 7.

Seating is limited. Tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door.
