The Westport Weston Family Y has received a $5,000 grant from First County Bank Foundation and plans to use the money to fund scholarships for its Early Learning Program.

The scholarships will cover child care for low-income single mothers and families, the Y said in a news release.

"We're thrilled to have this vital support from our friends at First County Bank," Rob Reeves, Family Y CEO, said in the release. It will assist parents who can't afford child care for their young children.

The Y said it would give out a total of more than $120,000 in financial assistance this year to 20 families in the program.

Richard Zaremski, senior vice president of the Stamford-based bank, said in the release it "is always looking for ways to give back to the community we call home, and we're delighted to be able to help the Family Y provide such vital services to local families."

First County is also a new sponsor of the Family Y's 34th annual Point-to-Point Compo Beach Swim. The one-mile open water swim is scheduled for Sunday, July 15, and proceeds fund additional scholarships for child care and other Y programs.
