Fairfield's zoning-enforcement officer has been charged by Westport police with issuing a bad check.
Matt Decker, 44, of Stratford, whose post is part-time in Fairfield's Planning and Zoning Department, was taken into custody on a warrant Tuesday afternoon by Westport police at Sullivan-Independence Hall in Fairfield.
Decker, who was working as a contractor on a private job Westport, issued an $8,500 check to a subcontractor that bounced because of insufficient funds, police said.
First Selectman Michael Tetreau on Wednesday said Decker is still employed by the town and his status has not changed. He declined to comment further.
Decker's immediate supervisors in the Planning and Zoning Department did not return calls for comment.
He posted $10,000 bond Tuesday and is scheduled to appear May 25 in Norwalk Superior Court.
