The Westport Center for Senior Activities will offer a series of events over the coming days at the center, 21 Imperial Ave.
Starting Saturday, Dec. 8, Madeline, a Staples High School sophomore, will offer one-hour appointments to play or learn how to play checkers at 9 or 10 a.m. on Saturdays. She would also be interested in learning how to play chess or bridge from those interested in teaching her, according to a release.
On Monday, Dec. 10, Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County will offer a workshop on "Mindfulness in Healing Grief" from 10 to 11 a.m. Nanette Greene, a licensed professional counselor, will discuss ways to be more compassionate, patient and open to life's ebbs and flows through sharing, simply breathing and body awareness exercises.
Holistic health expert Jeanne Licurse will feature "Les Trieze Desserts de Noel" ("13 desserts of Christmas") with organic teas and coffees from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. The class will be taught in the center's culinary kitchen. Cost is $6.
The Westport/Weston's YMCA will host a program by its Showtime Gymnastics group from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. The group recently won gold at the national Championship Challenge at Walt Disney World. Cookies and beverages will be served. Attendees may bring their grandchildren.
