Never Surrender to Parkinson's, a nonprofit organization focused on improving the quality of life of Parkinson's disease sufferers, will host its third annual 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Saugatuck Rowing Club, 521 Riverside Ave. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the race at 9.

Paul Green, founder of Never Surrender, was diagnosed with Parkinson's at 75. For the past 14 years, he has worked to educate fellow sufferers on the importance of vigorous exercise and mental agility in slowing the progression of Parkinson's symptoms.

He has been written about in magazines and newspapers and featured on NBC news in New York. He is also a frequent lecturer and facilitator at several area senior centers, according to a news release.

Prizes will be awarded to top male and female finishers of the race in all age categories.

Event proceeds will fund the organization's provision of educational and motivational materials to help Parkinson's sufferers and care providers incorporate an active lifestyle for a more rewarding quality of life.
