Entries are being accepted for the pinnacle of poochdom in Westport -- the annual Top Dog contest.

Westport Animal Shelter Advocates is organizing this 6th annual Westport Top Dog Photo and Essay contest.

The judges will include First Selectman Jim Marpe, Town Clerk Patricia Strauss, John Walsh, chairman of the Board of Directors for Homes with Hope, and Pamela Einarsen, of Pamela Einarsen Photography of Westport.

Westport dog owners are invited to submit a short essay with digital photo to wasa1@optonline.net along with a $10 donation (www.westportwasa.org, click on "Donate") in support of their pet's consideration for the award. Contact information (email address, phone number, address) should be provided for each entry, according to contest organizers.

Essays, photos and donations (checks should be made out to "WASA") may be mailed to WASA, 1 Tower Ridge, Westport CT 06880.

Deadline for submitting entries is Jan. 31.

Judges will convene Feb. 3 at Town Hall to review and score essays and photos. The owners of the dogs with the four highest scores will be notified following the judging, but the top prize winner will not be disclosed at that time.

A ceremony to present the Top Dog award is planned Feb. 13 in the Town Hall auditorium.

Authors of the top four essays will share them with the audience, followed by Marpe's announcement of the winner. A portrait of the 2015 Top Dog will be added to the gallery of earlier winners displayed outside the Town Clerk's office on the first floor of Town Hall.
