ELAINE LEWIS
Elaine Lewis, 76, died Jan. 30, 2010, at home in Westport, surrounded by family.
Born on Jan. 21, 1934, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Milton and Sylva Goldman. Following public school in Mount Vernon, N.Y., she attended New York University. In 1954, she married Daniel B. Lewis, from whom she was subsequently divorced. She never re-married. Her ex-husband attended to her in her final months.
She lived in various places before settling down in Weston in 1960, before moving to Westport in 1977. She was an avid gardener who obtained her master gardener's certificate from the University of Connecticut Agricultural Cooperative. She loved to play bridge and spend summers at Compo Beach.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan B. Lewis and his wife, Michelle of Fairfield, Ohio; her son, Timothy B. Lewis of Norwalk; her son, Andrew B. Lewis and his companion, Aimee Merritt of Newtown; and her son, Michael B. Lewis and his wife, Lisa of Maricopa, Ariz. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald Goldman of Boynton Beach, Fla.; her six grandchildren, Adam, Danny, Tori, Courtney, Jessica and Grace; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at Christ & Holy Trinity Church in Westport.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the World Wildlife Fund in honor of Lewis' love for animals.
