William Lyons, 36, of Canal Park, was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence.
An off-duty officer saw Lyons operating erratically on Post Road East, where he almost caused a motor vehicle accident, police said.
Marked patrol units arrived at the parking lot at 1265 Post Road East, where Lyons pulled in, police said. Officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Lyons' breath, police said. His speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy, police said. He failed field sobriety tests, police added.
Lyons was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, failure to drive right and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on $500 bond, and is scheduled to appear Sept. 20 in Norwalk Superior Court.
