Driver charged with DUI after crash

Arthur Connelly, 51, of Abbotts Lane, was charged Sunday night with drunken driving.

While investigating a minor two-car accident at the intersection of Compo Road South and Thomas Road, an officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Connelly's breath, police said. His speech was slurred, and he had red, glassy eyes, police said. He also failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Connelly was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and following too closely. He was released on $500 bond, and is scheduled to appear Aug. 22 in Norwalk Superior Court.
