It's clear. The holidays are here.

Decorations affixed to light poles lining Main Street and Post Road East in downtown Westport add a splash of festive colors.

A five-man crew on Monday wrapped the steel poles in red ribbon and suspended pots festooned with holiday garlands over the heads of shoppers.

The day's balmy weather made it feel more like summer than the onset of the holidays, but Sal Scavo, a foreman with Westport-based James Ferrone Landscaping, wasn't complaining.

"I'm in a T-shirt. I don't have to wear gloves," he said. "Last year, we were freezing our butts off."

The decoration operation, expected to be complete Wednesday, is funded by the Downtown Merchants Association.
