Westport resident Dr. Andrew Arnold, a physician and scientist at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, has been elected a Fellow American Association for the Advancement of Science, the health center announced.

Arnold is director of UConn Health's Center for Molecular Medicine, a professor of medicine and genetics/developmental biology, and chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism .

The science association elected Arnold "for distinguished contributions to the fields of molecular endocrinology and oncology, particularly for pioneering discoveries in human cancer pathogenesis and parathyroid gland neoplasia," according to the journal Science, which first announced the fellows.

The association is the world's largest general scientific society, and publisher of Science, UConn said. New fellows will be inducted during the group's annual meeting in San Jose, Calif., in February.
