The Democratic Women of Westport will hold its annual luncheon to present its Silver Donkey award on Tuesday, June 12. The event will take place at a private Westport home, starting with wine and cheese at 11:30 a.m., followed by a light luncheon.

The annual award, bestowed upon "an outstanding Democratic woman who has made major contributions to the party's efforts to elect Democrats to local, state and national offices," will be given to Bobbie Herman, according to a news release.

Herman, the organization's president for the past five years, was a Democratic Town Committee member for 18 years, during which time she was a district leader, and also a member of the Westport Zoning Board of Appeals and Board of Assessment Appeals. She is also active in several nonpolitical organizations, including the Westport Woman's Club and the Unitarian Church of Westport, the release states.

The Staples High School Tuition Grants Committee will also give its annual $1,500 scholarship to graduating senior Elizabeth Seaver, a four-year honor student who plans to attend American University in Washington, D.C., where she will major in international business.

The program will also include election of officers of the organization's executive board, which includes the following incumbents Bobbie Herman, president; Ginger Tobey, vice president; Connie Greenfield; and secretary; as well as Susan Eastman, treasurer. Also proposed to serve next year on various committees or as members-at- large will be Janet Aley, Sue Atkinson, Nita Cohen, Patty Doyle, June Lurie, Pearl Marcus, Natalie Myers, Nancy Saipe, Marilyn Smith, Dora Stuttman and Elaine Whitney. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor.

The group will also thank Doris Shiller, who served as treasurer for many years and retired from the office this year. She will continue on the board as a member-at large.

Congressman Jim Himes is slated to attend the event, the release states.

Cost for the event is $20, payable at the door or in advance by sending a check to DWW, 2 Nash Lane, Westport, CT 06880.

Members may also pay yearly dues of $25 at the event.
