The deadline for Westport homeowners to sign up to buy or lease solar panels at discounted prices under a state-subsized program has been extended to Jan. 14.
The initial deadline for the Solarize Westport program had been Friday, Dec. 14, but was extended by the state agency sponsoring it because homesowners and installers were impacted by Hurricane Sandy, the agency announced.
Solarize Westport offers group-discounts to local homeowners who buy or lease solar equipment through the program, administered by the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority.
Encon Solar, the program's chosen installer, will provide group discounts that will be based on the number of Westport homeowners who sign up. Through this week, Encon said in a news release, 24 local homeowners had committed to the program.
The more solar systems bought or leased, the greater the discounts will be, program officials have said.
Westport is one of four Connecticut municipalities chosen for the program, joining Fairfield and the Connecticut River Valley towns of Durham and Portland.
