A Yale University sociologist will speak about the market for human eggs and sperm during the 4th annual Darwin Day Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Inn at Longshore.

Rene Almeling is the author of "Sex Cells: The Medical Market for Eggs and Sperm," and her research has focused on gender, markets, medicine and genetics, dinner organizers said.

The evening begins with a cocktail hour at 6 p.m. and includes dinner, a science quiz with prizes and Almeling's talk.

Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and humanity held on or around Feb. 12, the day in 1809 when Charles Darwin was born. The local dinner is sponsored by the Southern Connecticut Darwin Day Committee.
