A script reading of the romantic comedy "Crossing Delancey" will be presented Monday, Dec. 9 at the Westport Country Playhouse.

In "Crossing Delancey," Isabel is a modern young woman -- by late 1980s standards -- who lives alone and works in a bookstore. When she is not pining after a handsome author, she is visiting her grandmother in Manhattan's Lower East Side. This delightfully nosy old lady and her friend the matchmaker have found a "good catch" for Isabel -- Sam, the pickle vendor.

The reading is at 7 p.m., and tickets are $15.

For the 1988 film version of Susan Sandler's play, Amy Irving was nominated for a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Isabel.

The Playhouse cast includes Dana Steingold, as Isabel; Lynn Cohen, as the grandmother Bubbie; and Ari Brand, as Sam.

Director Anne Keefe served as artistic director of Westport Country Playhouse with Joanne Woodward in 2008 and as associate artistic director from 2000-2006, also with Woodward.
