Westport police, alerted about a possible car theft in Norwalk, apprehended a Bridgeport man who they said was driving the stolen vehicle.

Victor Diaz, 23, of Ridgebrook Drive, Bridgeport, was charged with second-degree larceny after police determined the motor vehicle he was driving had been stolen in Fairfield, according to the report.

After monitoring a broadcast from Norwalk police about a possible car theft, local officers observed the suspect vehicle leave Interstate 95 at Exit 17, the report said.

"The operator of the car, Victor Diaz, was arrested for possessing the stolen vehicle as well a having a court-ordered re-arrest from a previous, unrelated case," police said in a statement.

Diaz was also charged with second-degree failure to appear. He posted $5,000 bond for the Westport charge and is scheduled to appear Aug. 4 in Norwalk Superior Court.

Diaz also posted a $2,500 bond for a failure to appear charge and is scheduled to appear Aug. 5 in New Haven Superior Court for that charge.
