An early morning chase across several towns lead to the arrest of a Bridgeport man after he crashed into a police vehicle.
At 4 a.m. today, a Westport officer saw a red Honda that had been reported by the Norwalk Police Department as stolen. The vehicle passed by the officer on the exit 18 northbound on ramp of Interstate 95. When the officer turned on his lights and siren, Alexander Figueroa, 31, reportedly did not stop and attempted to elude the officer. Fairfield and Bridgeport cruisers joined in the chase, and Figueroa left the interstate at exit 28 in Bridgeport. After about ten blocks of left and right turns through Bridgeport streets, Figueroa struck a Bridgeport police vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
He was caught soon after.
Figueroa was charged by Westport police with engaging in pursuit, reckless operation and operating under suspension. He was turned over to Norwalk police for the stolen motor vehicle charges and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Feb. 16.
